Never let it be said that the Worshipful Company of Bakers is not adventurous! Monday 4th June 2018 was the Bakers’ Summer Banquet, a new and, I hope, more inclusive name for what we formerly called the Ladies’ Banquet. And we decamped from our Hall not simply to another Hall in the City but to the Hall of the Honourable Society of Gray’s Inn, one of the four Inns of Court, just outside the City, where the Master is a Bencher.
We were honoured to have among our guests, the Lady Mayoress, Samantha Bowman, Alderman and Sherriff Tim Hailes and his consort, Fiona Adler, and the Treasurer of Gray’s Inn, Sir David Foskett and Lady Foskett. Our speaker was the Director of the Museum of London, Sharon Ament, who gave us a fascinating verbal tour of the items in the Museum connected with baking and bakery.
The musical entertainment was provided by Rokas Valuntonis, a very accomplished young Lithuanian pianist and City Music Foundation artist. Few will ever forget his exciting rendition of an arrangement of Mozart’s Rondo a la Turque.
It was a happy evening, best shown in the photographs which accompany this article. You can view and download all of the photos from the photographer's website.
