It is a privilege to welcome Delmari Janse Van Rensburg, New Zealand's 2024 Young Baker of the Year, to London this week. Delmari has also recently represented New Zealand in an Australian competition, which she also won, so is now also Australasia’s best newly graduated apprentice, an impressive achievement.
As part of her stay, our Past Master Christopher Freeman led her on a busy tour of some of London's leading artisan bakeries, including Dunns Artisan Bakers Ltd and other bakery shops in Crouch End, Eataly at Liverpool Street, Ottolenghi in Spitalfields, Ole & Steen at London Wall, and Bread Ahead Bakery in Borough Market, where they were lucky enough to receive an impromptu tour of the bakery.
Andrew Pyne of the Federation of Bakers then joined us at Bakers Hall to provide insight into current market bakery trends, consumer perception and successes. International fellowship at its best.
