The Baker’s Company is delighted to announce a Summer Short Course taking place from 19th – 23rd July 2027 at the GR Wright’s Flour Mill in Harlow, Essex.
The application form can be found here
G R Wright & Sons Ltd is a family business that was founded over 150 years ago and continues to be run by the sixth generation: David and James Wright. The company is based in Harlow, Essex; where a new mill was opened in 2020 comprising the most technically advanced operations to produce the highest quality flours and mixes. Two other mills are also in operation: one in Enfield, opened in 2014; and one in Ponders End where the business began in 1867. Milling has been going on in the Ponders End area since the Domesday Book first recorded it in 1087.
Wrights are very proud not only of their operations but also of their highly skilled staff, many of whom have long-service history within the company. They produce fine quality flours alongside a range of baking mixes for both the baking industry and home bakers alike. They are proud of their heritage and traditions but have heavily invested in the business to ensure that they are at the forefront of modern milling practices and technology.
The Worshipful Company of Bakers is delighted to be hosting a short course at Wright’s most modern flour mill in Harlow, Essex. The course will comprise a tour of the mill, including the laboratory and test baking facility; along with hands-on test baking experimentation to identify suitable baking applications for different Wrights flours. Finally, the renowned artisan baker Wayne Caddy will run a practical session of artisan-style bread making giving delegates the opportunity to use Wright’s finest flours in long-fermentation processes. Wayne has been a finalist in the Coupe Du Monde World Cup of Baking and Bakery Masters competitions hosted by the Lesaffre Group at the Europain exhibition in France.
Bakers, apprentices and bakery students are invited to apply for the limited number of places on this course, which will run from July 19th – 23rd 2027 inclusive. ONLY applications made using the official form will be considered.
