Bakers Company

An Evening with Dr Johnson

Image

Members of the Bakers' Livery Society and the Worshipful Company of Clockmakers came together last night for a fascinating tour of Fleet Street with Murray Craig, followed by a drinks reception and guided tour of Dr Johnson's House with Director Celine Luppo McDaid.

Murray shared numerous tales of history, rivalry and fellowship. His advice to always look up revealed the iconography of the Temple Bar Memorial, sundials, clocks, Queen Elizabeth 1st, and Mary Queen of Scots amongst other things.

Celine celebrated Johnson's lifelong relationship with Francis Barber, his aversion to deadlines, his infamous cat Hodge, and fondness for a houseful of the intelligentsia.

Thanks to all who supported the event. More Livery Society events will follow soon...
