For the last 10 years, Luminary Bakery has been empowering disadvantaged women in London to build a positive future for themselves and their families, breaking the cycle of poverty and violence, focussing on those who are furthest from the job market.
Their innovative two year programme teaches women to bake to a high standard, gain a catering qualification and build their transferable skills.
The Benevolent Fund of the Worshipful Company of Bakers is proud to announce a grant to Luminary to support its incredibly valuable work, helping its graduates to rebuild their lives and move towards brighter futures.
A recent graduate describes the programme:
“Luminary has significantly helped my journey by providing support and opportunities through their two-year employability programme. The first year, focused on baking, has been particularly transformative. It’s helped me develop practical skills and build confidence after going through difficult times as a survivor of an abusive marriage.
In addition to the baking programme, the wellbeing sessions and having a mentor have been incredibly beneficial. These aspects have provided me with emotional support and guidance, helping me to navigate my journey towards recovery and stability.
The programme's comprehensive support has been invaluable in helping me rebuild my life and move towards a brighter future which lead me to work as a commis pastry chef in one of the high end private clubs in London.”
