The Bakers were proud to support the 2025 City Food & Drink Lecture this week. The afternoon kicked off with the Future Generation Forum, which saw young people from across the food sector gathered together, including the opportunity to ask questions of the panel members ahead of the main lecture. Baking was represented by members of the LSBU National Bakery School. The discussion was far-reaching, and it is clear that there is huge enthusiasm for the future.
G's Chairman John Shropshire spoke compellingly about the future of food production and farming, highlighting the enduring importance of informed decision-making and big picture thinking. The panel
of Jack Bobo, Henry Dimbleby, and Katie Pettifer, ably chaired by Charlotte Smith, authority of BBC Radio 4's Farming Today, joined by John Shropshire, was both insightful and inspiring, notwithstanding the numerous challenges the sector faces, including food security, and climate change.
Finally HRH The Princess Royal offered an effortless summary of the evening's conversations, amply demonstrating her own deep-seated knowledge of the field.
One of the best lectures yet, and we look forward to continuing our support of the 2026 lecture.
